 High res boot fix question

Post High res boot fix question
Hi, I've read that the High_res_boot_fix works only with several games that run in high resolution. How can I determine whether the game has high or low?
Also is there a way to render in Qvga on a VGA device? (all gfxdrv render in VGA)
